The city of Nuremberg was first mentioned in documents on 16 July 1050 by a young woman named Sigena. And the city’s almost thousand-year history can be felt everywhere! The city has an enchanting medieval flair with wonderful historical buildings and you really should not pass up the opportunity of a tour of the castle or the dungeons.

Nuremberg is, of course, known for the Nazi rallies and the Nuremberg trials. But even today the city features in the world limelight through the Peace Banquet, the international Human Rights Award and the “Street of Human Rights”. In this respect the permanent exhibition “Fascination and Violence” in the documentation centre of the Nazi Party Rally Grounds, which has received worldwide accolade, is highly recommended.

But Nuremberg is also a modern city offering an unbelievable variety of events for every age and taste! For instance the Norisring Race, an international motor sport event featuring the world’s best touring cars and Formula 3 drivers. Or the Trempelesmarkt, Germany’s largest flea market with 4,000 professional and hobby traders. Another especially interesting event is the Bard Meeting, a festival of singer-songwriters from all over Europe – open air of course and entry is free. But I especially love Nuremberg at Christmas time, when the aroma of glühwein and gingerbread fills the air, visitors stroll along the streets in the old part of the city, which are lined with stands selling Christmas fair, or spend time at the “Goldener Brunnen”.

Nuremberg has firmly established itself as a trade fair city. The Toy Fair which takes place every year attracts visitors from all over the world to Nuremberg where they come to find out about the novelties in the toy sector. But also modern trade fairs such as BioFach (the world’s leading trade fair for bio products) and many more fairs and congresses attract a broad-based public to Nuremberg.

Did you know that Nuremberg was a secret toy capital? The triumphal march of the railways was launched from Nuremberg – in both large and small format. This can perhaps be attributed to the first train connection between Nuremberg and Fürth in 1835. You can still feel this today when you see the many different offers available for children. The Museum for Industrial Culture, The Children’s Museum in the Kachelbau children’s cultural centre, the Toy Museum and last but not least the German national railway museum all invite children to experience the exhibits “hands on”.

There are an endless number of things to do for children and grown ups in and around Nuremberg. In the immediate vicinity in Fürth / Zirndorf there is the Playmobil – Funpark. Further south is the “Franconian Lake District“ with the small and large Lake Brombach and the “Rothsee“. From here you can explore the picturesque towns of Schwabach and Ansbach or take a cycle tour to Altmühltal along the “canal”.

We have accommodation to suit every pocket and taste. A holiday apartment for the family, a room with access to the underground or a double room in the city with a view of the castle and just a stroll away from Hauptmarkt.

I will be pleased to welcome you!
