The town’s central location makes for a perfect base for excursions into nearby Alsace, for walking in the Black Forest, cycling along the Rhine and many other leisure activities such as mountain biking, high ropes courses, swimming, relaxation or even a journey on the historic steam train through Albtal. Ettlingen is considered one of the gateways into the famous Black Forest National Park.

Ettlingen is not short on culture either. The Schlossfestspiele have been taking place in the Ettlingen Castle courtyard for over thirty years. Fans of classical music will enjoy the SWR radio station’s concerts at the Castle, which are recorded and broadcast on SWR. The International Competition for Young Pianists is held every two years and has already brought many sought-after stars of the concert scene to the fore.

The people of Ettlingen are known to enjoy a good celebration. The traditional Marktfest takes place in the historic old town on the last weekend of August every year and is simply a must for everybody’s annual events calendar. The Watthalden Festival draws in families with its attractive programme and the unique ambience of the beautiful Watthalden Park. Live music, creative activities and a wide range of culinary treats are all on offer. The Old Town provides the perfect winter wonderland for our annual Christmas Market - the Sternlesmarkt, which can still be visited up to a few days after Christmas.
